Access Canberra follows the Information Privacy Act 2014 when handling your personal information. When handling personal information about your health we also follow the Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997.

Access Canberra is part of the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate (CMTEDD) of the ACT Government and is covered by their privacy policy.

Applications for:

One client record information

The information you provide to Access Canberra is added to your client record. This helps us help you to use Access Canberra’s other services and make transactions.

Part of the information included in your client record is about your identity. We use this information for administrative purposes, such as confirming that we are dealing with the correct person.

When we share information with third parties

Proof of identity applications

Under the ACT Liquor Act 2010, personal information we collect for proof of identity applications may be shared with:

  • other State, territory and Commonwealth government agencies and organisations
  • law enforcement
  • court agencies
  • liquor licensing inspectors
  • third parties only if authorised or required by law.

Driver licences or vehicle registration applications

Driver Licences and vehicle registration applications and forms are covered by the additional privacy acts listed above.

Under these acts the personal information we collect for these applications and forms may be shared with:

  • other State, territory and Commonwealth government agencies and organisations
  • vehicle and transport regulators and authorities
  • law enforcement
  • court agencies
  • other third parties, such Motor Accident Injuries (MAI) Scheme
  • authorised printing, mailing and card printing service providers
  • the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator
  • the National Capital Authority
  • Austroads Ltd*
  • individuals, their agents or insurers following a report provided to the police of a motor vehicle accident.

* Austroads Ltd (Austroads) manages a database of personal information about Australian drivers and vehicles. This database is called the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS).

Eight state and territory jurisdictions also contribute information to NEVDIS.

The aim of NEDVIS is to share this information across state borders to prevent fraud and theft.

The information we share with Austroads is shared to NEDVIS as well as other transport regulators and authorities.
