Registering your rally vehicle in the ACT will let you drive it on public roads in the ACT under certain circumstances.

The conditional registration allows rally cars to be driven to and from:

  • a rally
  • approved testing
  • scrutineering
  • a place for repairs
  • a place for the purpose of obtaining a certificate of inspection.

Registration

To register a rally vehicle in the ACT you must:

To register your vehicle, visit an Access Canberra Service Centre.

Bring with you:

  • your Certificate of inspection
  • proof of your identity
  • evidence of your membership with AMSAG or Motorsport Australia.
  • payment for the fee.

View acceptable forms of identification.

Modifications and transfer of ownership

You must have the vehicle inspected at the Access Canberra Vehicle Inspection Station when:

  • subsequent modifications are made to the vehicle
  • you are about to transfer the vehicle to a new owner.

Interstate and overseas rally vehicles

If you’re visiting from interstate or overseas, you can drive on ACT public roads if you meet certain conditions.

If you are from interstate, you must comply with the conditions of registration for your home state or territory.

If you are from overseas, you must apply for a short-term Special Purpose Permit. Call Access Canberra on 13 22 81 to apply.

If the vehicle is left-hand drive, you must display a ‘Left-hand drive’ sign that is at least 75 mm high on the back of the vehicle.
