Motor vehicle dealers need a vehicle verge permit to sell vehicles on public land next to their dealership.

Eligibility

Once issued a permit, dealerships must:

  • ensure the health and safety of all people who are engaging with the dealership
  • observe noise restrictions
  • ensure the land is free of litter and vehicle fluid leaks
  • remove vehicles outside of the times identified on the permit
  • make sure ramps, tarps, tables, umbrellas, signs, or sails are not used on the site
  • organise vehicles so they can withstand wind loadings
  • maintain a $20 million public liability insurance policy indemnifying the Territory for damage or injury.

Apply for a permit

To apply for a permit:

  1. Use the Public Place Permit form.
  2. Pay the fee and keep a copy of the transaction.

Apply for or transfer a verge parking permit

Transfer an existing permit

To transfer a permit:

  1. Consider if the new owner will be found suitable to hold the permit.
  2. Use the Public Place Permit form.

The permit will only be transferred to the new owner if they meet the eligibility requirements.
