Licence records
Access Canberra (the Road Transport Authority) will only release your licence records to you, someone you authorise, or someone authorised by law.
Request your licence records
You can request your licence history:
- online
- in person at an Access Canberra Service Centre.
Your request will be acknowledged within 2 business days. Our team seeks to facilitate a request within 10 business days from the date it was received.
Note: Records of manual driving tests taken before 1999 are not available. Requests for certified copies of these results cannot be processed.

How you make the request will determine what you need.
Requests made online
If you’re making the request online:
- complete an ACT search of records application [PDF 256.3 KB] form
- provide 2 forms of proof of identity – at least one must be primary
- if you're requesting for someone else, complete an Authority to act as an agent [PDF 192.3 KB] form
- provide your phone numbers so Access Canberra can contact you for payment
- submit this information via our online form.
Requests made in person
If you’re attending an Access Canberra Service Centre you’ll need to:
- complete an ACT search of records application [PDF 256.3 KB] form
- if you’re requesting for someone else, complete an Authority to act as an agent [PDF 192.3 KB] form
- provide 2 forms of proof of identity – at least one must be primary
- pay the fee.
Note: In-person requests for licence records are not issued at the time of attendance and will be emailed or posted to your nominated address.
Requests from legal practitioners, insurance companies, MAI Insurance providers
All requests from legal practitioners, insurance companies and MAI insurance providers following an accident, must be submitted in writing to the Access Canberra Document Management Team.
The request can be sent to Access Canberra by:
- submitting the online form
- post to GPO Box 158 Canberra ACT 2601.
Interstate licence history search
If you have an interstate driver licence, contact the state or territory which issued it.
If you need the licence history so you can get an ACT driver licence, you must attend an Access Canberra Service Centre within 7 calendar days of receiving it.
Both a licence and traffic history are needed for Queensland licence holders.
