Vehicle registration records
You can usually only request a statement of registration details if you are the registered operator, a joint operator of the vehicle or if you have authority to do so.

You can request your statement of registration details:
- in person at an Access Canberra Service Centre.
- by email.

How you make the request will determine what you need.
Requests made in person
If you’re attending an Access Canberra Service Centre you’ll need to:
- complete an ACT search of records application [PDF 189KB] form
- if you’re requesting for someone else, complete an Authority to act as an agent [PDF 185KB] form
- provide your proof of identity
- pay the fee.
Requests made by email
If you’re making the request by email:
- provide your proof of identity, for example your driver licence and Medicare card. Do not send copies of bank or credit cards.
- provide your phone number so Access Canberra can contact you for payment
- send this information to ACDocumentManagement@act.gov.au.
Identifying people involved in an accident
If the request is related to a legal claim, Access Canberra may release information to help identify a person involved in an accident.
Access Canberra will only release their name, address details and which Motor Accidents Injuries (MAI) insurance provider they use.
The request needs to meet one of these criteria:
- The request is from your legal representative or insurance company.
- Your request is supported by evidence that you need it for a legal claim (for example, a letter from your solicitor or insurance company)
- Your request is accompanied by permission from the person whose details you’re requesting.
Requests from legal practitioners, insurance companies, MAI Insurance providers
All requests from legal practitioners, insurance companies and MAI insurance providers following an accident, must be submitted in writing to the Access Canberra Document Management Team.
The request can be sent to Access Canberra by:
- email to ACDocumentManagement@act.gov.au
- post to GPO Box 158 Canberra ACT 2601.
