If you use a vehicle designed for carrying goods you can park the vehicle in a loading zone without a permit.

You can only park in these zones if you’re loading or unloading goods.

If your vehicle isn’t classified as a goods-carrying vehicle, you need a permit to park in a loading zone.

Types of non-goods carrying vehicles include:

  • motorbikes
  • sedans and hatchbacks
  • station wagons
  • passenger vans.

Permit time limits

The type of vehicle you’re using determines the permit time limit you can apply for.

Motorbikes, sedans and hatchbacks

You can pay for a 10-minute loading zone permit if you use a motorbike, sedan or hatchback for loading and unloading goods.

It is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

Station wagons

If you have a station wagon registered for business use, you can get a free 10-minute loading zone permit.

The permit is valid for the life of your current registration period. It won’t automatically renew; you need to reapply for the permit at the same time you renew your registration.

You can also pay for a 10, 20 or 30-minute loading zone permit for station wagons, whether they have a business or private-use registration.

Paid for permits are valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

Passenger vans

You can pay for a 10, 20 or 30-minute loading zone permit if you use a passenger van for loading and unloading goods.

  • doesn’t allow you to park illegally if the loading zone isn’t available

If your vehicle is a motorbike, you must display the permit on the left-hand side.

For all other vehicles you must display the permit on the dashboard or inside the front windscreen where it can be seen from the outside.
