Proof of identity cards demonstrate that you are 18 years or older.

They can be used as a proof of identity document.

These cards replaced the former Proof of age cards.

Apply for a Proof of identity card

To get a new Proof of identity card or replace a lost, stolen or damaged one, you'll need to visit an Access Canberra Service Centre.

What you’ll need

Bring with you your ACT Driver Licence if you have one.

If you don’t have one, bring original copies of your proof of identity.

View acceptable forms of identification.

If you want your ACT address printed on your Proof of Identity card, bring original copies of your proof of ACT residency.

View acceptable proof of residency documents.

Bring a VISA or Mastercard to pay the fee.

Your Proof of Identity card will be mailed to you. This can take up to 21 days. You can use your renewal receipt as proof until then. If you have not received your licence Proof of Identity card after that time, please call Access Canberra on 13 22 81.

Damaged cards

If you want to replace a damaged card, you’ll need to bring it with you to surrender at the Access Canberra Service Centre.

Fraudulent applications for a proof of identity card will lead to prosecution against you.
